Uganda’s State Minister Sarah Mateke Dies at 50. Sarah Mateke, the State Minister for Defence and Veteran Affairs of Uganda and Kisoro Woman Member of Parliament, has passed away at the age of 50.

Her death followed a heart attack, which occurred earlier this morning. She was rushed to Mengo Hospital but sadly was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Uganda’s State Minister Sarah Mateke Dies at 50 Following Heart Attack

Born on July 15, 1974, in Chahi Sub-county, Kisoro District, Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi was a respected figure in Ugandan politics and public service.

She was the third of six children born to Philemon Mateke, a former State Minister for Regional Affairs, and Joy Rwanfizi Mateka, a professional teacher.

Her educational journey was distinguished. Mateke attended Seseme Integrate School and Maryhill High School for her secondary education.

She furthered her studies at Bugema University, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. She also pursued advanced education, obtaining a Master’s degree in Public Health from Bugema University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration and Management from Uganda Christian University.
