The Ministry of Public Service, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and local government authorities (LGAs), has announced the recruitment of 600 teachers across various primary and secondary schools throughout the country. This initiative, driven by the need to strengthen the quality of education, falls under the Government’s ongoing efforts to address the pressing teacher-student ratio imbalance in both urban and rural areas.
The teaching vacancies, primarily targeted at addressing staffing shortages in the public school system, have been distributed across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) as well as Local Government Authorities (LGAs). Both fresh graduates and experienced teachers are encouraged to apply, provided they meet the stipulated qualifications and experience requirements.
The September 2024 recruitment drive is expected to focus on the following key areas:
- Science and Mathematics Teachers: Due to the continued emphasis on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), a significant portion of these vacancies will be allocated to teachers specializing in these disciplines.
- Early Childhood Education: Primary schools are set to receive a boost in the number of early childhood educators, aligning with the government’s objectives of improving foundational learning.
- Rural Schools Prioritization: In a bid to equalize education opportunities nationwide, many of the vacancies will be placed in rural or underserved areas, addressing long-standing teacher shortages in these regions.
- Special Education: A portion of the recruitment will also focus on hiring specialized teachers for students with disabilities, supporting inclusive education efforts.

- A diploma or degree in Education from a recognized institution.
- Registration with the Teachers Registration Council.
