In ensuring that both the government and non-governmental organizations make efforts towards the availability of alternative and environmentally friendly energy sources, Viridium Tanzania Ltd, a company that produces white charcoal using elephant grass, plays a significant role. Deputy Minister of State in the Vice President’s Office (Union and Environment), Khamis Hamza Khamis, emphasized the ongoing need for educating citizens to address deforestation, which is crucial for environmental conservation.

The Deputy Minister made these remarks during his visit to the factory located in Nzihi ward, emphasizing the importance of citizens transitioning away from using charcoal and firewood and instead adopting alternative energy sources like white charcoal, which is also environmentally friendly.

He said “I urge them to continue investing significant efforts in educating citizens on the proper use of alternative energy sources because the mindset of some citizens is still inclined towards using firewood and charcoal. Therefore, the significant task is to transition them from using firewood and charcoal to utilizing white charcoal to safeguard their health and the environment,”.
