PROF. MKENDA: TZS 48 BILLION SET ASIDE FOR 8,000 DIPLOMA STUDENTS’ LOANS
Minister for Education, Science and Technology Prof. Adolf Mkenda today (Wednesday, October 4th, 2023) launched ‘Guidelines for Issuance of Loans for Diploma Students for 2023-2024 Academic Year’ saying the Government has set aside TZS 48 billion for about 8,000 students pursuing high demand diplomas.
The guidelines are available on the Ministry’s website (www.moe.go.tz) as well as that of the Higher Education Students’ Loans Board (www.heslb.go.tz).
Speaking at the event held in Dar es salaam, Prof. Mkenda said that loan beneficiaries for 2023-2024 are expected to come from six priority areas namely Health and Allied Sciences; Education; Transport and Logistics; Energy Engineering; Mining and Earth Science; and Agriculture & Livestock.
“There are specific diploma programmes in the mentioned priority areas, which are detailed in the Guidelines. We urge applicants to orient themselves with the issued Guidelines before starting to apply for loans,” said Prof. Mkenda at the event held at HESLB offices in Dar es salaam.

Prof. Mkenda added: “The government is undertaking major reforms in the health sector by building and rehabilitating health facilities which need skilled manpower… we are also doing a lot in education where we need science teachers … in fact, in all sectors, so this move aims at addressing gaps in these six areas.”
On his part, HESLB’s Board Chairperson Prof. Hamisi Dihenga said the institution was ready to implement Government’s awaited decision to start issuing loans to diploma students countrywide.

On his part, HESLB Executive Director Abdul-Razaq Badru said online loan application window for diploma students will be open for 15 days from October 7, 2023 and that awareness programmes will be undertaken through radio, television and social media platforms.
