When UKZN Students Will Receive 2025 NSFAS Allowances. The University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) has announced the initial payment date for National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) allowances in 2025. NSFAS provides bursaries and loans to eligible students at universities and TVET colleges, covering tuition, registration, and allowances for living expenses and study materials.
UKZN to Administer Allowance Payments
UKZN will continue to manage NSFAS allowance payments for its students. This follows the termination of direct NSFAS allowance payments last year.
When UKZN Students Will Receive 2025 NSFAS Allowances
Payments are scheduled to begin on Thursday, 6 February 2025. UKZN’s Executive Management has decided to use 2024 allowance amounts for the initial payments. The university has warned of potential delays due to system updates required at the start of the academic year.
However, please be advised that the process takes a little longer at the start of the year due to programme changes that need to be made to the allowance system. This is being prioritised and the new provisional date for the first payment is 6 February 2025,
Uncertainty Surrounds 2025 Allowance Amounts
While UKZN will distribute the allowances, NSFAS has yet to announce the 2025 allowance amounts.
The University has been advised by NSFAS that Semester 1 allowances (Cycles 1 to 5) will be disbursed by the University. However, the University has not received any communication from NSFAS regarding the 2025 allowance amounts
Bank Details Submission Required
First-time NSFAS recipients in 2025 must submit their bank details to UKZN via Fresh Desk, along with supporting documentation.
Allowances can only be paid to bank accounts that are in the name of the student and not third parties
