Tanzania Commercial Bank is a publicly owned entity, primarily owned by the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, alongside minority stakeholders such as the Tanzania Posts Corporation, the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, Posta na Simu Savings and Credit Society, Public Service Social Security Fund, and Workers Compensation Fund.
Initially stemming from the Tanzania Posts & Telecommunications Corporation (TP&TC), TPB emerged following the dissolution of TP&TC, as per the Tanzania Postal Bank Act No. 11 of 1991.
However, the Act was repealed by the Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania on June 29, 2015, leading to TPB’s reconstitution under the Companies Act (Cap 212) on March 29, 2016, as TPB Bank PLC. On January 19, 2017, the bank publicly introduced its new identity as TPB Bank PLC, accompanied by a fresh logo and tagline (“Grow with us”).
Its mission is to offer convenient banking solutions through innovative approaches, enhance value for stakeholders, and contribute to the socio-economic development of the nation.
