Its origins date back to 1967 when all financial institutions, including banks, were nationalized by the Tanzanian Government. Subsequent amendments to the banking industry in 1991 paved the way for significant changes, leading to the acquisition of a majority stake in NBC by South African financial services group Absa Group Limited in 2000.
Following the acquisition, the Government of Tanzania retained a 30% shareholding, while the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, acquired a 15% shareholding.
This restructuring resulted in the establishment of NBC Limited. With a network of over 200 ATMs nationwide, along with robust internet and mobile banking services, NBC Bank offers customers the convenience and flexibility to conduct banking transactions anytime, anywhere.
