Mechanical Engineer (2 Vacancies)
Position: Mechanical Engineer
Reporting to: Mechanical Execution Manager
Location: Tanga
Responsibilities
Responsible for overseeing maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment in the cement plant; also involves managing a team of technicians, ensuring optimal machinery performance, and implementing maintenance strategies to enhance operational efficiency.
Principal Accountabilities
- Maintenance Management:
- Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
- Monitor the condition of plant equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues promptly to minimize downtime.
- Technical Expertise:
- Ensure the proper functioning of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Evaluate and recommend improvements to mechanical systems and processes
- Supervision and Leadership:
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate daily maintenance activities.
- Provide training and development opportunities for team members.
- Project Management:
- Plan and execute maintenance projects, including equipment upgrades and overhauls.
- Coordinate with other departments and external contractors for project execution.
- Monitor project progress and ensure completion within budget and timelines.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Promote a culture of safety and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and standards.
- Inventory and Spare Parts Management:
- Maintain an inventory of critical spare parts and tools.
- Ensure timely procurement of parts and materials.
- Optimize inventory levels to balance cost and availability.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for improving maintenance processes and efficiency.
- Implement best practices and innovative solutions to enhance plant reliability.
- Participate in root cause analysis for equipment failures and develop corrective actions.
- Reporting and Documentation:
- Prepare regular reports on maintenance activities, equipment performance, and project status.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment history and maintenance work.
- Ultimate responsible for safe working practices especially at areas of responsibility.
- Ensure environmental procedures are complied with, identify, and manage the environmental aspects
and impacts in his/her area and instil environmental awareness culture in his/her area. - Any other duties as may be assigned.
Requirements
- Must have a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical maintenance in cement plant or similar industry
- Registered with the Engineering Board of Tanzania (ERB)
- Proven leadership and team management skills
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities
- Proficient in using maintenance management software and tools
- Planning and organizing skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
- Certification in maintenance management or a related field
- Knowledge of reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) practices
