Tanzanian form six graduates, particularly those from low and middle-income households, often lack the financial means to afford university fees. To address this challenge, the Government of Tanzania created a higher education student loan board to provide an alternative funding resource for students needing financial assistance to pursue higher education.
This initiative has helped many Tanzanian students achieve their academic aspirations. The Higher Education Students’ Loans Board (HESLB) was established by HESLB Act (CAP 178) and became effective in July 2005. HESLB is mandated to, among others, issue loans and or grants to needy and eligible students.
