Stellenbosch University Research MSc-Amazing Computer Vision for Wildlife Monitoring!
Applications are invited for one funded research MSc position in Applied Mathematics at Stellenbosch University, supervised by Dr Shane Josias and Prof. Willie Brink. The position is funded by ByteFuse, an Artificial Intelligence research and development company within the Alphawave Group.
Project Outline
The project will investigate machine learning approaches to animal re-identification for wildlife monitoring and conservation, with applications to animal movement analysis and population estimation. The student will evaluate model performance across selected species, study data-related and species-specific limitations, and contribute to the development and analysis of improved models.
Scholarship Details

Value: R150,000 per year for two years

Includes: Laptop and computing infrastructure for experiments

Internship: Two-month paid internship at ByteFuse during studies

Applicants should hold, or be in the process of completing, a BSc Honours degree or equivalent qualification in:
