The National College of Tourism (NCT) originates from the Hotel & Tourism Training Institute (HTTI) which was established in 1969 under a British firm called “Hallmark Hotels Ltd”. The main objective was to provide basic skills in Front Office Operations, Housekeeping & Laundry, Food Production and Food & Beverage Techniques.
The institute was handed over to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism (Parent Ministry) in 1977. By that time the institute could only accommodate 50 students. As time went on, the demand increased. Students who were self sponsored were enrolled in big numbers.
Due to the emerging need for improving service delivery and the growth demand of the tourism industry, the institute was launched as an Executive Agency under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism in January 24th 2003 in accordance with the Executive Agency Act No. 30 of 1997 and changed its name into National College of Tourism.
